The expiration date on your Akimbo Card is approaching.
That doesn’t mean you should wait until the final day and then start figuring out what happens next.
A card transition can affect more than the physical card in your wallet. You may have saved card information with online stores, recurring payments tied to the existing card, and transactions that began before the old card reached its expiration date.
The easiest transition is one you review before the old card becomes unusable.
Read the Expiration Date Correctly
A card expiration is normally displayed as a month and year:
10/26
Don’t interpret that as October 1, 2026.
The printed expiration identifies the expiration month rather than giving you a specific first-day cutoff to invent yourself.
If you’re approaching that month, start paying attention to replacement information instead of waiting for a transaction to fail.
Check Whether a Replacement Is Expected
Don’t assume a new card will appear simply because the current one is nearing expiration.
Review the applicable Akimbo information and your card status.
If a replacement is expected but hasn’t arrived when you reasonably expect it, investigate before the existing card reaches the end of its validity.
Waiting until the old card no longer works leaves you with fewer options.
Receiving the New Card Doesn’t Automatically Finish the Transition
Suppose your new Akimbo Card arrives while the existing card is still valid.
You now have two physical cards.
That doesn’t mean both should simply remain in your wallet indefinitely.
Follow the applicable instructions for the replacement and determine when the new card becomes the one you’re supposed to use.
If activation is required, complete it through the appropriate process.
Then clearly distinguish the current card from the expiring one.
Compare the Card Information
Don’t assume the replacement has identical payment credentials.
Check the new card itself.
Depending on the replacement, information such as the expiration date and security code will obviously differ, and other card details may change as well.
This becomes important anywhere you’ve stored the previous card.
A merchant doesn’t know that a new piece of plastic arrived in your mailbox simply because it already has your old Akimbo Card saved.
Make a Short List of Important Recurring Payments
You don’t need to remember every website where you’ve ever entered the card.
Start with recurring services that still matter.
For example:
Phone or internet services
Streaming subscriptions
Memberships
Regular online services
Other recurring merchants
Determine which ones are currently using the expiring card.
Where an update is required, replace the old payment information with the current card information.
Don’t wait for each merchant to send a failed-payment notice.
Remove Old Saved Cards From Online Stores
Retail websites can retain a card for years.
After transitioning to the new card, you may open a familiar checkout page and see the old Akimbo Card automatically
